What Are These Services and what paperwork do I need?

 

 

In-State Title Transfer:The transfer of the title of ownership from one person to another who both reside in the state of NM.  Example – the sale of a vehicle or receipt of an inheritance or gift

 

What paperwork do I need?

  1. Driver’s License or other approved form of identification* 

  2. Title

(Title must be signed and have amount of purchase)

  1. Proof of Insurance in your name

  2. Dealer Invoice if purchased from a dealer, to include odometer statement and any other dealer documentation provided

 

 

Out-of-State Title Transfer: The transfer of the title of ownership from a product registered out of state to a person residing in the state of NM.  Example: the sale of a vehicle from TX

 

What paperwork do I need?

  1. Driver’s License or other approved form of identification*

  2. Out of State Title - Bill of Sale required if there is not a purchase amount annotated on the title.

  3. If Title is with Lien Holder see Lien Holder request section below

  4. Bill of Sale if Title does not include amount of purchase

  5. Proof of Insurance (If maintaining out of state insurance proof of coverage limits required) and Out of State Insurance form

  6. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspection (vehicle must be present for inspection)

  7. Dealer Invoice if purchased from a dealer to include odometer statement and any other dealer documentation provided

 

 

Transfer Upon Death: The transfer of a title upon the death of a benefactor. Example: An father left his property to his child.

 

What paperwork do I need?

  1. Driver’s License or other approved form of identification*

  2. Title

  3. Will

  4. Affidavit Transfer Without Probate (MVD-10011)

  5. Affidavit Claiming Successor (MVD-10013)

 

 

Duplicate Title: A copy of a state issued title to its licensedowner.  Example:  owners title is burnt in a fire – no change to original issued document

 

What paperwork do I need?

  1. Driver’s License or other approved form of identification*

  2. Application for Duplicate Title (MVD-10901)

  3. License plate or VIN number

 

 

Lost Title/Surety Bond:  A title is needed for an owner who obtained the property without a title.  Example: owner was given or sold property without a title, a new title is needed in new owners name

 

What paperwork do I need?

  1. Driver’s License or other approved form of identification*

  2. Surety Bond from Insurance Company

  3. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Inspection (vehicle must be present for inspection)

  4. Power of Attorney for documentation purposes

  5. Lost Title Application

 

 

Lien Holder Request: A request is made to the lien holder for proof of ownership 

 

What paperwork do I need?

  1. Lien Holder Contact Information: Name, Address, Phone Number, Fax Number

 

 

First Time Registration: First time registration for a vehicle in NM. Example: You just moved to NM and need to register your vehicle for your new residency.

 

What paperwork do I need?

  1. Driver’s License or other approved form of identification*

  2. Title in Applicant’s name

  3. Proof of Insurance (or proof of coverage limits if maintaining out of state insurance)

  4. Emissions test if residing in Bernallio County

 

 

Replacement Plate: Old plates are worn or need to be replaced.  

 

What paperwork do I need?

  1. NM Driver’s License or other approved form of identification*

  2. Old plate 

 

 

 

*Approved forms of identification: Passport, pass card, Affidavit of Birth, Certificate of Birth Abroad, Permanent Resident Card, Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of Citizenship, Employment Authorization, REAL ID Act of 2005 Credential, Out-of-State Driver's License - if document is not in English it must be translated

 

If presenting out of state ID, two proofs of residency** dated within 60 days (Must be two different types of documents, you cannot use two utility bills or two insurance bills for example)

 

 

** Proof of Residency: Utility Bill, Phone Bill, Insurance Bill, Bank or Credit Card Statement, Pay Stub, Education Institution Document, City, County, State, Tribal or Federal Document attesting to NM residency, Real Property Agreement, NM Public Assistance Medical Card, Affidavit of NM Residency, Membership in an NM Religious or Sports Organization Document
